Quick answer: The Magic 16k Windproof Umbrella is a long umbrella with 16 ribs ("16k" = 16 kadi) and is listed as windproof. Sixteen ribs give the canopy twice as many support points as an 8-rib umbrella, making it a good choice for people who regularly walk in breezy monsoon weather. See our umbrella price list for its current price. Other 16-rib options include our automatic army-print and black-silver umbrellas.

What "16k" means
In Indian umbrella names, k (kadi) or tar means ribs. A 16k umbrella has 16 ribs; a typical budget umbrella has 8. More ribs mean more points supporting the canopy, which generally helps it keep its shape. Frame material, joints and fabric still matter — see our guide to umbrella sizes and ribs.
Who should buy a 16-rib umbrella
- People in coastal or breezy cities who walk a lot during the monsoon
- Anyone whose cheaper umbrellas keep bending
- Buyers who want a sturdy, premium-feeling long umbrella

Using any umbrella in wind
- Hold it into the wind, not sideways.
- Close it in strong gusts — no umbrella is storm-proof.
- In storms, take shelter instead of fighting the wind.
